The Challenges
Preservation Requirements: Protecting the Queen Victoria Memorial statue’s sandstone and bronze surfaces by carefully removing only the biological growth and surface contaminants, while preserving its natural patina and historic character.
Operational Constraints: Operating in a busy city center with heavy pedestrian and vehicle traffic, as well as high visibility from surrounding buildings, the project required controlled access and strict separation to ensure the safety of the public.
Environmental Considerations: The use of chemicals was prohibited to prevent runoff contamination and eliminate potential health risks to the public and surrounding ecosystem.
The Solution
Preservation Achieved: Biological growth and surface contaminants were selectively removed using our 1000watt Netalux pulsed laser, preserving the statue’s historic material, detailing and surface integrity.

The Results
All biological growth and surface contaminants were successfully removed from the Queen Victoria Memorial’s sandstone and bronze surfaces, restoring the statue while preserving its natural patina and historic character.
